Synopsis

Fresh from the urban excitement of London, Mel and Ash are two British Chinese gay men who spend their days drinking lychee martinis and frequenting the local gay bars. After attending the funeral of Gavin, their closeted pal from their their university days, our heros begin to examine the crow’s feet on their faces and questioning the meaning of the labels in their wardrobes.

But when an outspoken trannsexual (think Samantha from "Sex in the City"), her butch, ex-army boyfriend, Mel's delicious Welsh boyfriend and an explosive secret that the dead but not forgotten Gavin was harboring enter into the mix, our heroes search for meaning in life erupts into uproariously comical situations.

With witty one liners, underground drag club, sex in public toilets and an all-male production of the Miss Pacific Rim Beauty Pageant, Cut Sleeve Boys is a quirky, hilarious story of self discovery and ultimately, a makeover of the British Chinese gay experience.

Review

Flaming Mel and studly friend Ash come together at the funeral of their closet-case pal Gavin (who dies while having gay sex in a toilet stall). Both worry that their love lives are as lifeless as Gavin. Mel is fending off Todd, a dull provincial lad who doesn’t mesh with Mel’s dreams of a fabulous diva lifestyle. And Ash is over the femme-at-heart (and in bed) Muscle Marys at the clubs, so when a transsexual friend from his past shows up -- with a hot, butch hubby in tow -- Ash wonders if donning drag is the key to finding “the one.” Billed as the first gay British-Chinese movie, Cut Sleeve Boys was written and directed by Ray Yeung, former Director of Hong Kong’s Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. Frustrated by the lack of upbeat, romantic Asian queer films each year, Yeung set out to create this candy-colored, exuberant and sexy treat… which definitely makes the cut!

“Cut Sleeve Boys” (Regent Releasing) which is hysterically funny. It depicts Asian culture in metropolitan London. If you know something about the gay scene in London you have an advantage as understanding the movie will be much more fun for you.
Two gay men of Chinese ancestry are looking for love. One is very wealthy and has a great sense of style and is good looking but insecure. The order is a parody of everything camp.
The goal of the film is to entertain—nothing more. It breaks down the stereotypical picture many of us have about Chinese men and it empowers them by showing them as stylish, wise, handsome and powerful.]
Even with this portrayal, the movie uses other stereotypes and they are used for comedy alone. The movie will have you laughing non-stop. As it examines the nature of gay relationships in a very subtle way, it pokes fun at the way we live as gay men. And the movie twists and turns, we go on a joy ride of laughs. The final scene will have you holding your sides. It also asks you the question of how people can fall victim to vanity and not pay attention to friendship.
There is plenty of eye candy as the men are especially good looking and so you don’t think that there is no value to this comedy, it will give you food for thought. There is one very hot scene of a three way kiss that you really do not want to miss.
Everything about the film is good, the actors, the direction, the sets. The plot is highly interesting and did I say it is funny?
To me the most important thing the movie does (aside from making us laugh) is to portray Asian men differently than has ever been done before.
I do not want to give to o much if the film away so I will stop here and just say to you to try to se it. It has not yet been released on DVD but Here TV! Usually does release its films.

This is a film about gay Chinese young men search for sex(love). The story has all the angst, pathos, romance, comedy, and adventure that the audience can tolerate. This story-line takes place in London which is ideal for such a rapid pace movie. The characters really are captured by the acting on screen. A definite addition to your Collection! SUPERBLY RENDERED!!! TERRIFICALLY ENJOYABLE!!!
